February 10th, 2013- It's Mauni Amavasya. In India, over 30 million devotees took a dip during the Kumbh Mela at the confluence of rivers-Ganga, Yamuna and (almost disappearing) Saraswati. It is said that the next auspicious moment will come after almost a hundred years.
Is it a co-incidence that two major auspicious occasions in different parts of the world are on the same day? Or it just goes to say that human beings on earth are not really that different?
Whether I go to a Hindu temple, a chinese temple or a church, the worship involves bowing in front of the idol , burning candles (or diyas) or incense in some cases. For me , it feels the same. The new year rituals of meeting family and friends, decorations, cleaning of house, wearing new clothes, it's all the same. Museums reveal a lot about these similarities and some adaptations in the way our ancestors led their life.
The outer manifestations may be different, but the core message is the same in all the cultures.
I wonder, why do we magnify our differences, when in reality, we are the same?
