Why ?

Journey to a place known to many via history books...
A city made known because of a terrible man-made calamity....
One of the targets of Atom Bomb...
Hiroshima...

I recently travelled to the city of Hiroshima. A normal city, with cherry blossoms on the riverside, skyscrapers, a tramline and bullet trains. A city with life and soul. My friend and I went to the Peace Memorial and saw a film on the atomic bomb drop on Hiroshima. The naked truth captured by the filmmaker was so brutal. The entire city was erased with one swift action as a result of the drop of the atom bomb. The pain, the misery, the consequences of the act cannot be described in words. The scenes were so painful. Watching the film, it was impossible to comprehend that human beings can do such terrible things to their fellow human beings. After the film, we went to the museum and it was with tears in our eyes, that we re-visited the painful period of history.

I remember writing essays on whether "Advanced science is a boon or bane?", but never did I feel about the negative side of Science and Technology, as I did, standing on the very ground which saw and bore the scars of the devilish side of Science.

The walls of the museum were filled with requests and pleas from the residents of Hiroshima to the Head of States of those countries which were still experimenting with nuclear weapons. Some of them were as recent as April 2012. Standing there, looking at the letters, we were just wondering (from a common earthling's point of view), that even after seeing the consequences of these acts which affect not only the existing generations, but the generations to come, the acts which makes one human hate another one, the acts which destroys numerous lives, the acts which play with nature, the acts which do not give solace to anyone...

Why,oh why do countries still want to continue experimenting with weapons of mass destruction?
