Is'nt it true that only people whom you love most (or care for) can make your life unendurable? Others,really, don't matter.
Taking the above thought further, if someone close to us, does something that is not right (in our eyes),the negative effect is manifold, compared to someone else,whom we don't have any attachment with.The perceived mistake/action of the loved one is magnified 1000 times and the effect is felt deep within our heart.
Does that mean that we really can't be objective, where our loved ones are concerned? We are harsh and very tough on them for things, which, in others would seem forgivable.
I would think it's not fair, but then, that's the price one pays for being a human with a heart!
