Love Affair with Nature...

Human being's love affair with nature never dies... it may fade away for a while, but it always comes back.

I tend to believe that, however great progress mankind may make in creating artificial scenarios/buildings, amusement parks, shopping malls, the charm and the attraction of natural surroundings will always remain as the foremost pull for humans.

The realisation struck me quite strongly when I went on a Hiking trip to the HK GeoPark in Saikung. The trip was full of surprises. First, it presented the scenic beauty of HK Countryside, which I had not even visualised in my dreams. Then, the mountains, the various water-bodies, the vast spread of nature with uninhibited beauty, the fresh air ( though a bit cold), the clear skies, the winding pathway, the appearance and disappearance of exotic flora, the steep climb and (thankfully) the downhill way amidst the jungle, the smile on the faces of fellow hikers... all left me and Boorzin and Kelvin (Boorzin suggested this hiking trip) with a very nice feeling at the end of the day ( though the legs were a bit tired after 13 kms walk).

I guess life throws pleasant surprises, when we least expect them . When we began the hike, we didn’t know where we will end up. At the start of the hike,we saw a far-off dam (we were in the HK Reservoir Geo park) and thought we will never be able to make it. Imagine our surprise when we did reach the dam (East Dam) and were rewarded with a sight of sea-waves lashing on to a cofferdam (made of dolosses) and rocks called "petrified waterfalls" along with some islands jutting out of the sea in interesting angles formed by erosion by sea waves. The scenic beauty of this Easy Hiking Trail called the "MacLehose Trail", frankly, cannot be described in words or captured in photographs. It should be experienced first-hand.

There are plenty of such nature trails in Hong Kong, which show a really beautiful picture of Hong Kong. They also present a very pleasant opportunity to start or re-kindle one's love affair with nature.
